Characteristics

Low-growing suffrutex or perennial herb 0.1-0.4 m tall. Stems many-branched, arising from a woody rootstock, ascending or decumbent, whitish pubescent and/or villous-pilose, with scattered dark setose hairs; ± densely scattered with pearl bodies. Stipules 7-10 mm long, linear-attenuate. Leaves pinnately (5)7-13(17)-foliolate; leaf axis 26-50 mm long, with dense clusters of dark pearl bodies at base of petiole and between leaflets; petiole of (4)5-13 mm, stipels absent; terminal leaflet 7-15 x 5-7 mm, ± broadly elliptic, mostly glabrous above, sparsely to densely long pilose beneath and along margins. Raceme 5-17 cm long, including peduncle of 31-50(66) mm; bracts 4-7 mm long, linear-lanceolate; pedicels 1-3 mm long. Calyx (4)5-7 mm long, densely dark brown and whitish hirsute, pilose or subsericeous; lobes lanceolate-attenuate, 2-5 times as long as tube. Corolla dark pinkish-red, back of standard whitish pubescent; keel apex obtuse, with narrow band of spreading whitish hairs along distal midline. Stamens 10-12 mm long; anthers with scattered hairs. Pod 18-21 x 2-3 mm, ± spreading, oblong, subcylindrical, ± densely hirsute to pilose with dark brown/black whitish hairs; endocarp densely spotted with tannin vescicles. Seeds 5-6, immature.
