Characteristics

Small shrub or bushy perennial herb 0.3-1.2 m tall. Stems erect, sparsely-branched, often angular, ± appressed strigose-pubescent to pilose with whitish and/or dark hairs, also sparsely to densely setose with longer ascending black or dark brown hairs. Stipules 2-5(6) mm long, lanceolate to subulate, mostly shorter than or equalling petiole. Leaves pinnately (5)7-9-foliolate; leaf axis 11-37 mm long, including petiole of 1.5-9 mm, stipels present; terminal leaflet 7-24 x 3-8 mm, elliptic, oblong or oblanceolate, ± appressed whitish pilose above, densely strigose-pubescent to pilose often with some black hairs beneath. Raceme densely dark brown to greyish hairy, 5-12(15) cm long, 7-12 mm wide in zone above open flowers (in Flora area), including peduncle of 10-56 mm; bracts 3-6 mm long, linear-lanceolate; pedicels 1-1.5 mm long. Calyx 4-5.5 mm long, densely hirsute with dark brown or black hairs; lobes setaceous, 3-5 times as long as tube. Corolla pink, back of standard whitish pubescent with darker hairs along midrib near apex; keel apex obtuse, pubescent or stiffly setose with brown hairs along distal midline. Stamens (3.5)4-5.5(6) mm long, equal to or slightly shorter than calyx (in Flora area); anthers with hairs below. Pod 5-8 x 2-3 mm, ± spreading, elliptic-oblong, densely pilose with soft whitish hairs and setose with stiff dark hairs; endocarp sparsely to finely scattered with tannin deposits. Seeds 2, 1.4-1.8 x 1-1.4 mm, ± cuboid, grey-green, not deeply pitted.
