Characteristics

Erect branching annual up to 80 cm. tall from a taproot, everywhere sparsely strigose, the hairs 0.4–0.8 mm. long, strictly appressed except on the calyx, white or, especially on the inflorescence, brown.. Stipules triangular-subulate, erect, ± 2 mm. long; rhachis up to 6 cm. long, including a petiole of up to 2 cm., prolonged 3–6 mm. beyond lateral leaflets; leaflets 5–11, broadly linear or narrowly oblong, up to 5 cm. long and 6 mm. wide.. Racemes 10–30-flowered, up to 6 cm. long, almost sessile in the leaf-axils; bracts very caducous, ± 2 mm. long; pedicels up to 2 mm. long, stiffly erect.. Calyx brown strigose, divided almost to base, the lower lobe 4–5 mm. long, the upper half as long.. Corolla ± 5 mm. long, densely appressed white pubescent outside, very caducous.. Stamens ± 5 mm. long.. Pods stiffly erect, up to 3 cm. long, 3 mm. wide, 2 mm. thick, with prominent sutures, 8–15-seeded; endocarp beautifully spotted.. Seeds pitted.
