Indigofera tomentosa Eckl. & Zeyh.

Prostrate or decumbent herb or suffrutex, up to 0.6 m high; stems angular, crisped hirsute to greyish white-tomentose. Stipules 2-7 mm long, lanceolate to linear-acuminate. Leaves petioles 2-12 mm long, robust. Terminal leaflet 4.5-20.0 x 4-13 mm, broadly cuneate-obovate, both surfaces densely hirsute-tomentose, venation prominent below, apex rounded to truncate. Inflorescences of 35-100 mm long, 20-50-flowered racemes; peduncle 25-70 mm long, many times longer than leaves; pedicels 0.5-2.0 mm long. Flowers 5-6 mm long, orange-red; calyx (3.5)4.0-5.0 mm long, densely tomentose, lobes subulate-setaceous, ± 3 or more times tube length; standard spreading pubescent dorsally to almost glabrous; keel apex obtuse to subrostrate. Stamens 3.5-4.5 mm long, ± equalling the calyx. Flowering time Aug.-Dec. Pod 10-20 x 2.0-2.5 mm.
