Characteristics

Branched erect herb up to 1 m. tall from a woody but normally annual rootstock; medifixed hairs on stems, etc., white, spreading at the tips; short (up to 0.3 mm.) multicellular glandular hairs reddish, very abundant on stems, leaf-and inflorescence-rhachides and sometimes found on calyx-lobes and leaflet-margins.. Stipules spreading, setaceous, up to 4 mm. long; rhachis up to 7 cm. long, including a petiole 1–20 mm. long, prolonged up to 3 mm. beyond the lateral leaflets; leaflets 7–19, elliptical or elliptic-oblong, rounded and apiculate at the tip, up to 10 mm. long and 6 mm. wide, densely strigulose on both surfaces (hairs ± 0.4 mm. long) and also strongly strigose beneath (hairs 1 mm. long).. Raceme 15–35-flowered, up to 8 cm. long including a peduncle of 1–2 cm.; bracts linear, up to 3 mm. long, sometimes subpersistent; pedicels up to 1.5 mm. long.. Calyx strigose, up to 4 mm. long, divided almost to the base, the lobes ending in long setaceous tips.. Corolla strigose outside.. Stamens 3–4 mm. long.. Pods straight, 10–15 mm. long, 1.6 mm. wide, 1.2 mm. thick, densely covered both with rather spreading white medifixed hairs and with erect glandular hairs up to 0.6 mm. long, 6–8-seeded.
