Leaf lamina discolorous, oblong or linear-lanceolate, 2·7–8·5 × 0·25–2·7 cm., sparesely pilose above, densely to sparsely white-pilose beneath, at first white-silky; petiole up to 15 mm. long.
Flowers congested in small densely pilose heads; peduncle up to 9 cm. long, rigidly erect, suberect or ascending; bracts small, setaceous, long ciliate.
Corolla funnel-shaped, red or mauve, 1·5–3·3 cm. long, the tube narrow below; midpetaline areas minutely silky outside.
Stems erect or prostrate, up to 1 m. long, often reddish, appressed, strigose, with laxly leafy branches.
Sepals lanceolate, 6–10 mm. long, white-silky with a conspicuous green edge.
Capsule ovoid-globose, glabrous.
Annual or perennial herb.
Seeds pubescent.
