Characteristics

Perennial; stems twining, pilose with yellow-bristly hairs.. Leaf-blade thin, ± orbicular in outline, up to 9 cm. long and 10 cm. wide, shallowly 3-lobed, with the lobes rounded and obtuse at the apex, and with a deep sinus at the base, adpressed pilose above and also with an understorey of shorter hairs, densely covered beneath with a white-cottony indumentum except on the nerves which are yellow-bristly; petiole up to 12 cm. long.. Flowers in a dense bracteate head; peduncle up to 20 cm. long, densely yellow-setose; bracts ovate-lanceolate to ovate, up to 1.5 cm. long and 0.7 cm. wide, identical with the leaves in indumentum but bristles on veins are longer and glands are also present.. Sepals similar to the bracts, about 1.2 cm. long, the white tomentum very dense.. Corolla 4–5 cm. long, white with purple throat, partly covered (particularly below) with white tomentum outside.
