Flowers axillary, solitary or a few germinate in small heads, peduncles 1–7·5 cm. long, hairy; bracts linear to ovate, acuminate, 5–19 × 1–8 mm.
Stems up to 2 m. long, twining or erect, slender, persistently yellow-brown-pubescent.
Corolla funnel-shaped, mauve or purple, more or less pilose, 2·5–5 cm. long.
Sepals lanceolate to ovate, acute, up to 16 × 6 mm.
Perennial herb with woody rootstock.
Capsule globose, glabrous.
Seeds brownish, pubescent.
