Characteristics

Leaf lamina from broadly oblong to circular oblong, 3·5–6·5 × 2·5–6 cm., rounded or very obtuse at the mucronulate apex, more or less cordate at the base, upper surface scabridulous to sparsely pilose, lower surface lighter, markedly reticulate hirsute on the veins; petiole up to 8 mm.

Inflorescences generally few to many-flowered dichasial cymes, sometimes 1-flowered; peduncles up to 20 mm. long, hispidulous; pedicels very short, hispidulous as the peduncles; bracts minute, ovate.
Sepals subequal, ovate, 10–18 mm. long, shortly acute; deep wine-red at the base, glabrous inside, minutely warted outside, margin especially of the inner ones pellucid.
Stems long, prostrate, branching up to 1·5 m. or more, rugulose, more or less minutely hirsute in the younger portion.
Corolla funnel-shaped, mauve with deep mauve throat up to 6 cm. long.
