Leaf-lamina circular in outline, compound divided into 5–7 leaflets or palmately 5–9-lobed to the base, 5–17 cm. long and wide; leaflets narrowly lanceolate 7–8·5 × 1–2·4 cm., acuminate and apiculate or obovate-elliptic, 3×1·4–1·6 cm., cuneate at the base and emarginate at the apex; lobes narrow lanceolate 5–8 × 0·1–0·5 cm.; outer lobes often bifid; petiole 1·5–5 cm. long; petiolules 0·2–1·0 cm. long.
Capsule of subsp. stellaris (Baker) Verdc. var. obtusifolia Verdc. globose, glabrous, coriaceous and seeds trigonous, greyish, shortly pubescent, otherwise unknown.
Inflorescences many-flowered cymes; peduncle 1–7·5 cm. long; pedicels short, up to 1·5 cm. long; bracts lanceolate up to 6 mm. long.
Corolla funnel-shaped, purple, violet or white, 4–7·5 cm. long.
Sepals ovate, 6–7·5 mm. long, acute.
Stems twining or prostrate, smooth.
