Characteristics

Leaves deciduous; lamina narrowly to largely oblong, ovate or obovate, 3–7·5 × 0·5–2·5 cm., acute or rounded, minutely apiculate at the apex, rounded at the base, glabrous or more or less pubescent; petiole 1–4 mm. long.

Shrubby from a thick woody rootstock, with trailing habit, glabrous or nearly so, often flowering when completely leafless.
Corolla funnel-shaped, pale mauve, deep reddish mauve inside tube, 4–7 cm. long, glabrous.
Stems erect, virgate, sometimes branching hirsute in the younger portion, glabrous later.
Seeds covered with brownish silky hairs.
