Characteristics

Amphibious herb; corm 3-lobed, 6–15 mm wide. Leaves 6–12, spirally arranged, erect to erect-patent, 10–20 mm long, 0.8–1 mm diam. near mid-point, flexible, acute, ±4-angled, green; base 4–8 mm wide, winged; white; apex dark green; peripheral fibre strands and internal hairs absent; stomata present distally; trans-lacunar diaphragms visible; ligule triangular to reniform, 0.5 mm long; labium absent. Sporangia round to slightly elliptic, 1.5–3 mm long, 1.5–2 mm wide, semi-transparent, pale yellow, brown with age. Microspores almost smooth, brown. Megaspores Type I, IIA, rarely III, 0.3–0.45 mm diam.; proximal and distal faces tuberculate; tubercles hemispherical to elongate, sometimes coalescing, drying greyish white.
