Characteristics

Mat-forming annual or short-lived perennial. Roots minute; rhizome 4-32 x 0.4-1.7 mm, horizontal, green and above ground. Culms 5-37 cm tall, 0.3-1.6 mm diam., woody at base, with one or more internodes, peduncle 5-36 cm tall, 0.3-1.1 mm diam. Leaves: sheath 6-24 x 0.4-1.9 mm, green or brown; blade 1-61 x 0.3-0.8 mm. Inflorescence terminal, not proliferating; bract 2-4 x 0.7-1.3 mm. Spikelet 1, 4.7-9.3 x 1.5-3 mm, with 19-59 glumes. Glumes 1.6-3.4 x 0.7-1.2 mm, obtuse, green or with brown patches, midrib green with mucro <0.1 mm long. Style bifid. Stamens 2-3, anthers 0.6-1 mm, crested. Nutlets 0.9-1.2 x 0.5-0.8 mm, brown, minutely reticulate.
