Characteristics

Tufted annual or short-lived perennial. Roots minute; rhizome 1-2 x 2-5 mm, ascending, whitish. Culms 34-87 cm, 0.9-1.3 mm diam., without nodes. Leaves: sheath 57-105 x 1.4-2.5 mm, dark brown; blade reduced to a lobe 2-5 x 0.2-0.6 mm. Inflorescence pseudolateral, proliferating; bract 4-6 x 0.5-0.8 mm. Spikelet 5-14, 2.5-4.2 x 1.4-2 mm, with 6-12 glumes. Glumes 2.1-3 x 0.7-1.2mm, acute to obtuse, reddish-brown, midrib reddish-brown with mucro < 0.1 mm. Style trifid. Stamens 3, anthers 1-1.3 mm long, crested. Nutlets 1-1.4 x 0.5-0.8mm, dirty white, minutely reticulate.
