Tufted annual, up to 150 mm tall. Stems filiform. Inflorescence terminal, of 1-4 spikelets, basal bract inconspicuous to longer than inflorescence, suberect, filiform. Spikelets ovoid, 3-5 x 2 mm, glumes dark red with a green keel, mucro 0.1-0.2 mm long. Nutlets tuberculate.
