Characteristics

Tree (4–)10–30 m. tall; trunk furrowed; bark grey; young branchlets densely pubescent with short spreading pale ferruginous hairs.. Leaf-blades oblong-oblanceolate, narrowly oblong, obovate-oblong or elliptic, 5–30 cm. long, 1.5–7 cm. wide, acuminate at the apex, rounded or broadly cuneate at the base, thin, probably pubescent all over when very young, but soon glabrous save for midrib; lateral nerves 14–20; petioles 2–8 mm. long, pubescent or glabrescent.. Flowers solitary or paired, axillary; pedicels 1–2 cm. long, articulated near the base; bracteoles basal, imbricate, ciliate.. Sepals ovate-triangular, 3–3.5 mm. long and wide, thick.. Corolla yellow (fide I.T.U.) or reddish-brown (fide F.C.B.); tube urceolate, 4–9 mm. long; lobes orange (fide F.C.B.), erect or somewhat spreading, linear-lanceolate, 0.5–1.7 cm. long, 1.5–3 mm. wide, thick, puberulous.. Fruits ovoid or ovoid-ellipsoid, 6.5–9 cm. long, 3.5–4.5 cm. wide, irregularly longitudinally ribbed outside.. Seeds irregularly ellipsoid, 1.2–2 cm. long, ± 1 cm. wide and 8 mm. thick, densely covered with and containing numerous minute orange-red glands.
