Characteristics

Plants 200-400 mm high. Corm globose, ± 10 mm diam., often with a few small cormlets at base; tunics of fairly fine netted fibres. Leaves 5 or 6, all basal, narrowly lanceolate, usually reaching to ± middle of stem, (8-)10-16 mm wide, lightly twisted in upper half, uppermost leaf usually entirely sheathing, margins and main vein not or hardly thickened. Stem usually unbranched. Spike flexuose, crowded, (6-)12-to 20-flowered; bracts dry, translucent, outer ± 7 mm long, with prominent dark central vein, obscurely 3-toothed, central tooth cusp-like and much exceeding lateral teeth, inner ± as longer as outer, 2-keeled, each with a prominent dark vein, 2-toothed. Flowers salver-shaped, actinomorphic, uniformly deep yellow or light orange, scentless; perianth tube narrowly funnel-shaped, 8-11 mm long, filiform in lower 1/2-2/3, widening gradually above, basal part tightly clasping style, with nectar in upper third; tepals obovate-elliptic, subequal, spreading, margins slightly upcurved, 16-23 x 7-9 mm. Filaments inserted ± 1 mm below apex of tube, decurrent for ± 1 mm, 5-6 mm long, straight, slightly diverging; anthers 5-6 mm long (before anthesis), diverging, yellow; pollen yellow. Ovary ovoid, ± 3 mm long; style straight, erect, dividing opposite lower 1/3 of anthers, branches arching outward, 4.5-6.5 mm long, reaching to shortly above base of anthers.
