Characteristics

Plants 150-300(-500) mm high. Corm globose, 7-12 mm diam., bearing cormlets at base; tunics of fine netted fibres. Stem slender, rarely with 1 or 2 straight branches diverging at 40-80° from axis, subtended by obscure, membranous acute bracts and prophylls 1-2 mm long. Leaves 2 or 3(4), lower 1 or 2 (rarely 3) with expanded blades, ± basal, narrowly sword-shaped to ± linear, mostly 2-4(-5) mm wide, with moderately thickened main vein and margins, uppermost leaf sheathing lower part of stem. Main spike (1-)3-to 5(-7)-flowered, lateral spikes 1-to 5-flowered; bracts translucent, often flushed pink or purple distally, 6-9 mm long, outer 3-veined and 3-toothed to 3-lobed, inner ± as long or 1 mm longer than outer, 2-veined and 2-toothed. Flowers usually half to fully nodding, white to pale pink, sometimes flushed light purple to pink outside, yellow in throat, tube finely lined with purple, not closing at night, usually sweetly scented, especially evenings; perianth tube ± cylindric, 20-24 mm long; tepals subequal, ovate, 10-16 x 5-8 mm, outer slightly wider than inner. Filaments 6-10 mm long, reaching mouth of tube or exserted up to 4 mm; anthers ± 4(-5) mm long, pale yellow. Style dividing opposite middle to apex of anthers, branches 1-2 mm long.
