Plants 200-300(-600) mm high. Corm globose, 12-17 mm diam.; tunics of medium to coarsely textured, netted fibres. Stem simple or with 1 or 2 short branches. Leaves 5 to 7, narrowly to broadly lanceolate, reaching to ± middle of stem, 1.5-8.0 mm wide, main vein and margins moderately thickened, sometimes slightly twisted. Spike crowded, usually 3-to 15-flowered; bracts membranous, translucent pink, outer 5-9 mm long, with 1 or 3 prominent veins, 1-or 3-toothed, inner 2-veined, 2-toothed. Flowers salver-shaped, yellow to orange, rarely red, with small dark brown to black central eye, unscented; perianth tube cylindric, 6-12 mm long; tepals obovate to elliptic, spreading, subequal, 15-22 x 6-12 mm. Filaments occasionally united at base, connivent, 3-5 mm long, brown to black; anthers divergent, 6-8 mm long, yellow; pollen yellow. Style dividing opposite middle to apex of filaments, branches 3-5 mm long.
