Plants 350-650 mm high. Corm globose, 10-13 mm diam.; tunics of fine, pale, netted fibres. Stem usually with 2 or 3 slender, ± erect branches held close to main stem. Leaves 3 or 4, linear, 1/2 to ± 2/3 as long as stem, 1-3 mm wide, main vein and margins moderately thickened, uppermost leaf partly sheathing stem. Spike laxly 4-to 6-flowered; bracts membranous, translucent, pale, outer 8-10 mm long, usually with 3 prominent veins, 3-toothed, inner 2-veined, 2-toothed. Flowers ± rotate, brilliant magenta with small, purple-black central mark, unscented; perianth tube cylindric, 3-6 mm long; tepals elliptic, spreading, subequal, 16-20 x 7-12 mm. Filaments connivent, 4-5 mm long, purple-black; anthers 5-7 mm long, dark purple-black; pollen purple-black. Style dividing opposite base of filaments, branches falcate, up to 5 mm long.
