Characteristics

Plants mostly 150-200 mm high. Corm 1.0-1.4 mm diam., with tunics of medium-textured fibres. Stem simple or with 1 or 2 short branches subtended by dry, translucent brown, attenuate bracts and prophylls 3-5 mm long. Leaves usually 3 or 4, lower 2 (or 3) with expanded blades, lanceolate to falcate, ± half as long as stem, upper leaf sheathing stem in lower 2/3, free in upper 1/3. Spike erect, 2-to 4(-6)-flowered; bracts dry-membranous, translucent brown with dark veins, 8-9 mm long, outer 3-veined, with 3 subacute teeth, central tooth longest, inner 2-veined and forked at apex, slightly shorter than outer. Flowers salver-shaped, white with large dark red-purple centre and plale greenish tube, unscented; perianth tube funnel-shaped, ± 11 mm long; tepals ascending below, spreading above, ovate, (17-)20-22 x 11-13 mm. Filaments 3-4 mm long, included in tube; anthers 4-5 mm long, yellow, bases included in tube. Style dividing opposite lower third of anthers, branches ± 2 mm long.
