Characteristics

Plants usually 400-600(-800) mm high. Corm globose, with sessile cormlets at base; tunics of fine to medium-textured fibres. Stem 1-to 3(4)-branched, rarely unbranched; branches suberect, closet to main axis, subtended by membranous, attenuate bracts and prophylls mostly 3-5 mm long. Leaves (3)4 to 6, narrowly sword-shaped to sublinear, 1.5-6.5(-8.0) mm wide, upper 1 or 2 leaves partly sheathing. Main spike erect, flexuose, (2-)7-to 12(-16)-flowered, lateral spikes 2-to 8-flowered; bracts membranous, 5-8 mm long, usually ± 1 internode long, occasionally longer, outer with 1 prominent vein and prominent central cusp, sometimes with a shorter tooth either side of central cusp, inner bract 2-veined and forked apically, slightly shorter to slightly longer than outer. Flowers salver-shaped, pink or white, not scented; perianth tube narrowly funnel-shaped, 8-12 mm long, lower half filiform; tepals ovate, 10-14(-16) x 5-8 mm, spreading horizontally. Filaments 5-6 mm long, exserted 2-4 mm; anthers 4-5 mm long. Style dividing below base to lower third of anthers, rarely opposite upper third of anthers, branches mostly 4-5 mm long, ascending, emerging between anthers.

Leaves 4 or 5, linear 15-50 x 1.5-6.0 mm, suberect or erect, midrib prominent. Bracts oblong or ovate, sometimes shortly tridentate, pellucid, or pinkish mauve.
