Plants 200-600 mm high. Corm globose, 15-20 mm diam.; tunics of medium to coarsely textured fibres. Stem simple or with 1 to 3 straight, widely divergent branches. Leaves 3, all basal, lower 2 narrowly to broadly lanceolate, (3-)5-10 mm wide, usually ± half as long as stem, main vein and margins moderately thickened, uppermost leaf entirely sheathing, reaching to middle or upper third of stem, almost straight. Spike usually 3-to 6-flowered, lateral spikes 1-to 4-flowered; bracts membranous, translucent, outer 8-10 mm long, with 3 purple veins, shallowly 3-toothed, inner as long to slightly longer than outer, 2-veined, forked at apex. Flowers salver-shaped, pale to deep pink, tepals purple to blackish toward base, lightly sweet-scented; perianth tube slightly curved and cylindric for 2-3 mm, widening abruptly into a cup ± 3 mm deep; tepals obovate, spreading at ± right angles to tube, subequal, (14-)18-22 x (6-)10-12 mm, inner slightly wider than outer. Filaments inserted at mouth of narrow part of tube, connivent, 5-6 mm long, ± black; anthers divergent, 6-7 mm long (before anthesis), black; pollen yellow. Style dividing opposite anther bases, black, branches 2-3 mm long.
