Characteristics

Plants 200-400 mm high. Corm ± globose, 8-15 mm diam.; tunics of fine, netted fibres. Stem simple or with 1 short, upright branch. Leaves usually 5, lower 3(4) basal, < half as long as stem, lanceolate, 4-12 mm wide, spirally twisted, margins undulate to crisped, upper 1(2) leaves cauline, longer than basal, mostly sheathing with short free blades. Spike closely 2-to 7-flowered; bracts 9-13 mm long, outer acute or 3-toothed, inner slightly shorter, 2-toothed. Flowers salver-shaped, brick-red to pink to mauve-pink with small dark central mark; perianth tube filiform, 8-10 mm long; tepals spreading, united basally for 1-2 mm, obovate to elliptic, 13-20 x 8-11 mm. Filaments ± 3 mm long; anthers 6-7 mm long, yellow. Style dividing opposite middle of anthers, branches ± 2.5 mm long.
