Characteristics

Dwarf twiggy shrublet, caudex up to 15 mm diam., branches c. 100-450 mm long, often heavily browsed and stunted, up to 6-8 mm in diam., erect, ascending or spreading, minutely glandular-puberulous, hairs less than 0.1 mm long, leafy. Leaves opposite or sometimes becoming alternate on the inflorescence axes, pseudofasciculate, largest primary leaves 4-16(-20) x 1-6(-10) mm, spathulate or oblanceolate, apex obtuse, base cuneate and tapering into a petiolar part, blade entire or with 14 pairs of teeth in upper part, these reaching up to halfway, occasionally 2/3 of the way or more, to the midrib, broad, obtuse, entire, lower surface thickly clad in glistening glands, a few minute glandular hairs on the midrib below, upper surface glabrous or with a few scattered glistening glands. Flowers solitary in the upper leaf-axils forming many-flowered terminal racemes, sometimes panicled. Pedicels up to 6-16 mm long. Calyx tube 0.1-0.2 mm long, lobes 2.2-2.6 x 0.5-0.6 mm, ± spathulate, thickly covered in glistening glands, a few minute glandular hairs as well. Corolla tube 7-9 x 1.3-1.5 mm in throat, cylindric, abruptly expanded near apex, limb oblique, c. 7-10 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 3-5 x 1.7-3 mm, anticous lobe 3-5 x 1.5-2.6 mm, all lobes oblong, ± truncate or retuse, glandular-puberulous outside, hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm long, glistening glands as well on swollen part of tube and backs of lobes, transverse band of clavate hairs in throat extending briefly onto lower lip, lobes white, each marked at the base with a dark brown or crimson median bar. Stamens: posticous filaments 1-1.3 mm long, anthers 0.7-1.2 mm, anticous filaments 0.4-0.7 mm long, anthers 0.3-0.8 mm long, all filaments minutely glandular at apex. Stigma 0.15-0.2 mm long. Style 4.5-6.4 mm long. Ovary 1.5-1.8 x 0.8-1 mm. Capsules 4-5 x 2.5 mm, glistening glands all over. Seeds 0.4-0.5 x 0.25-0.3 mm. Flower in any month.
