Characteristics

Shrub up to c. 750 mm to 1.5 m tall, stems ± erect to straggling, well-branched, the ultimate branchlets often short (less than 100 mm), patent or wide-spreading, glandular-puberulous, hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm long, scattered glistening glands as well, closely leafy. Leaves alternate, pseudofasciculate, largest primary leaves 3-25 x 1-10 mm, rhomboid, cuneate or sometimes oblong in outline, apex obtuse (often almost truncate but toothed), base cuneate tapering into a short petiolar part up to c. 1/3 total leaf-length, margins sometimes entire in small secondary leaves, usually with up to 5 pairs of + evenly-sized, acute teeth in upper half, the largest teeth occasionally 1-toothed, glabrous above or occasionally a few glistening glands, thickly clad in glistening glands below. Flowers solitary in the axils of leaf tufts scattered along the branches. Pedicels up to 10-25 mm long, filiform, often wide-spreading. Calyx tube 0.2-0.3 mm long, lobes 2-2.6 x 0.5-0.8 mm, oblong-lanceolate, ± acute, clad in glistening glands only. Corolla tube 7-9.5 x 1.8-2 mm in throat, cylindric, abruptly expanded near apex, limb oblique, c. 8-14 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 4-6.5 x 1.8-2.8 mm, anticous lobe 4-6 x 2-3.5 mm, all lobes cuneate-oblong, tips ± truncate or retuse, glandular-puberulous outside, hairs up to 0.2-0.25 mm long, glistening glands as well mainly on backs of lobes and swollen part of tube, transverse band of clavate hairs in throat extending briefly onto base of lower lip, all lobes white, throat yellow. Stamens: posticous filaments 1-1.2 mm long, anthers 0.7-0.8 mm, anticous filaments 0.6-0.7 mm long, anthers 0.4-0.5 mm, all filaments minutely glandular. Stigma c. 0.2 mm long. Style 6-6.8 mm. Ovary 1.5-2 x 0.8-1 mm. Capsules 3.5-6 x 2.2-3 mm, glistening glands all over. Seeds c. 0.7 x 0.4 mm. Flowering in any month.
