Characteristics

Dwarf shrublet, often gnarled, prostrate to erect, branches up to 100-450 mm long, very twiggy with many short stiff lateral branchlets, crowded with closely leafy brachyblasts, glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.15-0.2 mm long, scattered glistening glands as well. Leaves opposite and decussate, sometimes alternate towards the tips of the branchlets, primary leaves 0.8-2.2(-3.2) x 0.6-1.2 mm (ratio of length to breadth 1-2.5(-3):1), subrotund, broadly elliptic or broadly spathulate, mostly entire, occasionally a few primary leaves with a pair of teeth near apex, thick-textured, upper surface with a few glistening glands and sometimes minute glandular hairs as well, often glabrescent, lower surface thickly clad in glistening glands. Flowers solitary in the axils of the primary leaves, irregularly scattered all along the branchlets. Pedicels up to 6-14 mm long, glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm long, a few glistening glands as well. Calyx tube 0.15-0.2 mm long, lobes 2-3 x 0.5-0.8 mm, ± oblong, obtuse to subacute, glistening glands all over, minute glandular hairs as well. Corolla tube 9-11 x 2 mm in throat, cylindric, abruptly expanded near apex, limb oblique, c.l0-14 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 4-7 x 2.2-4.5 mm, anticous lobe 4-5.5 x 2.2-4 mm, all lobes cuneate-oblong, often retuse, glandular pubescent outside, hairs up to 0.15-0.2 mm long, glistening glands as well mainly on backs of lobes and swollen part of tube, broad transverse band of clavate hairs in throat extending very briefly onto base of lower lip, lobes shades of pink, mauve and blue, rarely white, throat probably always yellow. Stamens: posticous filaments 1-1.5 mm long, anthers 0.8-1 mm, anticous filaments 0.5-0.8 mm long, anthers 0.5-0.8 mm, all filaments minutely puberulous. Stigma c. 0.2 mm long. Style 6.5-8.3 mm. Ovary 1.2-2 x 0.8-1 mm. Capsules 3-4 x 2.5 mm, glistening glands all over. Seeds not seen.
