Characteristics

Rigid dwarf shrublet, stock stout, woody, up to at least 20 mm diam., stems c. 60-300 mm long, erect, decumbent or spreading, virgately well branched from the base and above, thickly clad in large glistening glands, leafy. Leaves opposite becoming alternate on the inflorescence-axes, pseudofasciculate, crowded well below the inflorescences, largest 10-25 x 4-9 mm, spathulate or oblong in outline with a broad petiolar part, blade cut mostly of way to midrib, sometimes a little deeper, lobes oblong, obtuse to subacute, entire or the largest 2-3-toothed, both surfaces clad in large glistening glands. Flowers up to c. 14, distant, solitary in the axils of bracts, forming racemes carried well above the foliage. Bracts (lowermost) 3-5.5 x 0.8-2.5 mm, spathulate, entire or rarely the lowermost 2-toothed. Pedicels up to 3-5 mm long. Calyx tube 0.2-0.3 mm long, lobes 2.4-3.5 x 0.5-1 mm, oblong to spathulate, thickly clad in glistening glands and minute hairs up to c. 0.15 mm long. Corolla tube 9-12 x 2-2.8 mm in throat, cylindric, abruptly expanded near apex, mouth laterally compressed, limb oblique, 6-7.5 mm across the lateral lobes, posticous lobes 2.2-3.3 x 1.5-2 mm, anticous lobe 1.8-3 x 1.8-2.3 mm, all lobes oblong, retuse, glandular pubescent outside, hairs up to 0.15 mm long, glistening glands as well, broad transverse band of clavate hairs in throat extending briefly onto lower lip, lobes yellow, posticous lobes sometimes flushed purple at tips, tube purplish. Stamens: posticous filaments 1.3-1.5 mm long, anthers 0.9-1.1 mm, anticous filaments 0.8-1 mm long, anthers 0.5-0.8 mm, all filaments minutely glandular at apex. Stigma 0.2 mm long. Style 5.5-7.8 mm. Ovary 1.5-2 x 0.8-1 mm. Capsules 5-7 x 2-3 mm, glistening glands all over. Seeds (few seen) c. 0.7 x 0.5 mm.
