Characteristics

Dwarf twiggy shrublet, branches up to 300 mm long but often heavily browsed and stunted, up to 6-10 mm in diam., erect, ascending or spreading, densely glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.25-0.5 mm long, leafy. Leaves opposite or sometimes alternate towards tips of branchlets, pseudofasciculate, largest primary leaves 6-25 x 4-13 mm, ovate to elliptic tapering to apetiolar part accounting for up to 1/3 total leaf length, often much less, apex obtuse or occasionally subacute, blade divided up to halfway to midrib into 2-4 pairs of broad obtuse to subacute lobes, these nearly always entire, or some leaves ± entire, both surfaces densely glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.2-0.3 mm long, glistening glands as well mostly on lower surface. Flowers up to 10 in upper leaf axils forming small lax terminal racemes, sometimes panicled. Pedicels up to 5-22 mm long. Calyx tube c. 0.1-0.15 mm long, lobes c. 4.5-5 x 0.6-1 mm, ± spathulate, densely glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.25-0.4 mm long, glistening glands as well. Corolla tube 18-28 x 2.2-2.5 mm in throat, cylindric, abruptly expanded near apex, limb oblique, 12-15 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 7.5-10 x 2.1-3 mm, anticous lobe 7-9 x 2. 1-3.2 mm, all lobes oblong, ± truncate, glandular-pubescent outside, hairs up to 0.25-0.4 mm long, glistening glands as well mainly on backs of lobes, transverse band of clavate hairs in throat extending briefly onto lower lip, lobes white, each marked at the base with a dark red-brown median bar. Stamens: posticous filaments 1.8-2.2 mm long, anthers 1.1-1.2 mm long; anticous filaments 0.7-1 mm long, anthers 0.8-0.9 mm long, all filaments minutely puberulous. Stigma 0.25 mm long. Style c. 14-20 mm. Ovary 2-2.5 x 1 mm. Capsules 4.5-7 x 2.5-3 mm, minutely glandular-puberulous. Seeds not seen.
