Characteristics

Perennial herb but will flower when very young and then looks annual, woody rootstock eventually up to c. 15 mm in diam. at crown, stems solitary at first, ultimately several from the crown, erect, ascending or prostrate, c. 80-600 mm long, soon branching from the base and above, glandular-puberulous, hairs up to 0.2-0.3 mm long, scattered glistening glands as well, leafy throughout. Leaves opposite becoming alternate upwards, often pseudofasciculate, largest 12-45 x 5-28 mm, blade elliptic or ovate-elliptic in outline tapering into a petiolar part, blade divided roughly 1/2-1/3 to midrib into oblong-elliptic obtuse or subobtuse lobes, lobes either entire or the largest with 1-3 teeth, both surfaces glandular-puberulous, hairs up to 0.1-0.25 mm long, glistening glands as well particularly on lower surface. Flowers solitary in the axils of the leaves, these becoming very small and entire upwards, the whole forming long racemes. Pedicels up to 10-35 mm long. Calyx tube 0.25-0.4 mm long, lobes 2.5-3 x 0.5-1.2 mm, oblong to spathulate, glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.15-2 mm long, glistening glands as well. Corolla tube 3.8-5 x 2 mm, cylindric, throat slightly expanded, mouth dorsoventrally compressed, limb oblique, 5-6 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.6-2.2 x 1.6-2 mm, anticous lip porrect, anticous lobe 2-3 x 2.3 mm, all lobes suborbicular, lemon-yellow, orange patch in throat extending onto base of lower lip, glandular-puberulous outside, glistening glands as well, a broad transverse band of clavate hairs in throat and at base of anticous lip. Stamens: posticous filaments 1-1.4 mm long, anthers 0.7-1.2 mm, anticous filaments 0.3-0.7 mm, anthers 0.4-0.6 mm, all filaments minutely puberulous. Stigma 0.2-0.5 mm long, included. Style 1.8-2.2 mm long. Ovary 1-1.2 x 0.8-1 mm. Capsules c. 3.5-5 x 2.5-3 mm, minutely glandular-puberulous, glistening glands as well. Flowers can be found in any month, but the principal season is June to November.
