Characteristics

Perennial herb but can flower young and look annual, woody rootstock eventually up to c. 10 mm in diam., stems solitary at first, soon several from the crown, c. 70-400 mm long, erect, ascending or decumbent and then sometimes rooting, soon branching from the base and above, glandular-puberulous, hairs up to 0.1-0.3 mm long, few scattered glistening glands as well, leafy. Leaves opposite becoming alternate upwards, pseudofasciculate, up to 8-30 x 6-22 mm, blade elliptic to broadly ovate in outline tapering into a petiolar part, blade cut nearly to midrib, one or two of the largest pairs of lobes cut again, other lobes entire or 1-toothed, plentiful glistening glands on both surfaces, scattered glandular hairs as well up to 0.1-0.3 mm long particularly on lower surface. Flowers solitary in the axils of the leaves, these becoming very small upwards, the whole forming long racemes or panicles. Pedicels up to 9-27 mm long. Calyx tube 0.2-0.25 mm long, lobes 2-3.8 x 0.6-1.1 mm, oblong to spathulate, glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.15-0.25 mm long, glistening glands as well. Corolla tube 2.8-4.2 x 1.8-2 mm, cylindric, throat slightly expanded, mouth dorsoventrally compressed, limb oblique, 5-10 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.5-2.7 x 1.7-2.3 mm, anticous lip porrect, anticous lobe 1.5-3.6 x 1.8-3.6 mm, all lobes suborbicular, yellow, deeper yellow in throat and at base of anticous lip, glandular-puberulous outside, hairs c. 0.15 mm long, glistening glands as well, a broad band of clavate hairs in throat extending briefly onto base of lower lip. Stamens: posticous filaments 0.8-1.5 mm long, anthers 0.4-1 mm, anticous filaments 0.5-0.7 mm long, anthers 0.5-1 mm, filaments minutely puberulous. Stigma 0.2-0.4 mm long, included. Style 1.7-2.7 mm long. Ovary 1.2-1.5 x 0.8-1 mm. Capsules 3-5 x 2-3 mm, glistening glands all over.
