Characteristics

Twiggy dwarf shrublet c. 80-600 mm tall, branches erect or decumbent, young parts glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm long, twigs crowded with leaf-fascicles. Leaves opposite, alternate upwards, primary leaves 2-12 x 1-7 mm (secondary leaves often much smaller), spathulate, larger ones tapering into a distinct petiolar part, apex obtuse, margins entire to coarsely toothed (usually 1 or 2, occasionally 3, pairs of teeth), both surfaces glandular-puberulous, hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm long, lower surface with crowded glistening glands as well. Flowers scattered irregularly in axils of primary leaves. Pedicels up to 6-17 mm long, glandular-puberulous, hairs up to 0.1-0.15 mm long. Calyx tube c. 0.2 mm long, lobes 2.8-4.1 x 1 mm, oblong to linear-lanceolate, acute, glandular-puberulous, hairs up to 0.1-0.15 mm long, scattered glistening glands as well. Corolla tube 17-22 x 2-2.2 mm in throat, cylindric, abruptly expanded near apex, limb bilabiate, 9-14 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 4-5 x 2.2-5.5 mm, anticous lobe 4.5-6 x 2.7-3.5 mm, all lobes ± oblong, apex ± truncate, lateral margins strongly revolute making lobes look very narrow, tube minutely glandular-puberulous outside, glistening glands on backs of lobes, broad transverse band of clavate hairs in throat extending very briefly onto base of anticous lip, lobes thick-textured, venation invisible above and there chocolate-brown, sometimes with very narrow pale thin-textured margins. Stamens: posticous filaments 1-1.8 mm long, anthers 1-1.2 mm, anticous filaments 0.3-0.5 mm, anthers 0.8-1 mm, filaments glandular-puberulous. Stigma c. 0.3-lmm long. Style 13-17 mm. Ovary 2-3 x 1.2-1.4 mm. Capsules c. 6.5-8 x 3.5-4 mm, glistening glands all over, sometimes a few minute glandular hairs as well. Seeds c. 1 x 0.6 mm (few seen).
