Species

Angiosperms > Lamiales > Scrophulariaceae > Jamesbrittenia

Characteristics

Perennial herb, loosely branched, stems straggling, c. 300-450 mm long (no basal parts seen), glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.5-1.2 mm long, few scattered glistening glands as well, very leafy at least on the younger parts. Leaves opposite becoming alternate upwards, pseudofasciculate, blades of largest primary leaves 5-22 x 4-19 mm, ovate in outline abruptly contracted into a petiolar part 3-10 mm long (roughly 1/3-1/2 length of blade), apex obtuse, often 3-toothed, margins divided roughly 1/2 way to midrib or deeper into 4 major pairs of broad oblong lobes, lobes mostly 1-3-toothed, both surfaces glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.4-0.8 mm long, glistening glands as well particularly on lower surface. Flowers solitary in the leaf-axils. Pedicels c. 9-20 mm long, filiform, sparsely to densely glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.2-0.8 mm long. Calyx tube 0.1-0.25 mm long, lobes 34 x 0.7-1 mm, spathulate, ± acute, glandular-pubescent, hairs c. 0.3-1 mm long, glistening glands as well. Corolla tube c. 7.3-8.5 x 2 mm in throat, cylindric, abruptly inflated near apex, limb oblique, c. 7-11 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 3-5.5 x 2.3-3 mm, anticous lobe 3-7 x 2.3-3.5 mm, all lobes cuneate-oblong, tips ± retuse, glandular-pubescent outside, hairs up to 0.25-0.5 mm long, glistening glands as well mainly on backs of lobes, broad transverse band of clavate hairs in throat extending, very briefly onto base of lower lip, all lobes white, throat yellow. Stamens: posticous filaments 0.7-1.5 mm long, anthers 0.8-1 mm; anticous filaments 0.3-0.7 mm long, anthers 0.5-0.8 mm, all filaments minutely puberulous. Stigma c. 0.2 mm long. Style 5-6.5 mm. Ovary 1.5-1.8 x 0.7-0.8 mm. Capsules 3.5-5 x 2-3 mm, clad all over in glistening glands and minute glandular hairs. Seeds c. 0.9 x 0.8 mm. Flower in any month.
