Native selection discovered by Joseph W. Thomas of King of Prussia, Pa. First propagated in 1880. Most widely propagated black walnut cultivar to this day. Medium-sized, oblate nut weighs 19 g and yields 24% kernel. Precocious and prolific. As tree matures, kernels do not fill as well. Susceptible to anthracnose. Tree grows vigorously but is subject to wind damage. Thomas is the standard to which all other cultivars are compared. Recommended in Nebraska, Michigan, and New York. Origin: Tree: Fruit:
