Characteristics

Shrub or shrublet, 0.25-0.60 m high. Branches stiff, often almost spiny, with numerous short side shoots. Leaves more or less subsessile, densely grey-hairy with very short hairs, or glabrescent, elliptic, oblanceolate or ovate, up to 25 mm long, apex obtuse, occasionally acute or acuminate with small cusp, thickish to semisucculent, midrib partly visible, other nerves indistinct. Flowers solitary, subsessile. Bracteoles variable, 3-12 mm long. Calyx densely hairy, sometimes with delicate, transparent pin-hairs intermixed. Corolla 13-16 mm long, pure white or with red veining on lower lip, rarely flushed pink. Capsule 12 mm long, apex more or less rostrate. Seed not seen.
