Characteristics

Sprawling to suberect shrubs, 0.50-0.75 m high. Branches straight or slightly arched, stiff, sometimes almost spiny, densely grey-hairy with microscopic indumentum of anvil-and pistol-shaped hairs. Leaves more or less subsessile, sometimes appearing verticillate, thinly to densely canescent with microscopic anvil-and pistol-shaped hairs, obovate to oblong-obovate, rarely elliptic, up to 17 mm long, apex obtuse, thickish in texture, midrib only visible. Flowers solitary, pedicellate, pedicels 1-3 mm long. Bracteoles linear, 2-4 mm long, always shorter than calyx. Calyx 3-6 mm long, covered with microscopic hairs mixed with prominent mushroom-shaped glands. Corolla 13-15 mm long, hairy, sometimes almost shaggy. Capsule 12 mm long, sparingly puberulous. Seeds (immature) round, flattened, smooth.
