Characteristics

Much-branched shrub about 0.6 m high. Branches stiff, almost spiny, hoary when young. Leaves sessile, white-or grey-hairy with a short, dense indumentum of microscopic, asymmetrical, T-shaped hairs, or glabrescent, linear, terete or occasionally flat, mostly 6-15 x 0.7-1.0 mm, more or less channelled on adaxial surface with prominent midrib. Flowers solitary, shortly pedicellate, pedicel 1-3 mm long. Bracteole awl-shaped, 2-3 mm long. Calyx lobes unequal, adaxial lobe narrower and often shorter than the rest, covered with microscopic, asymmetrical, T-shaped hairs, 4-8 mm long in flower, lengthening in fruit. Corolla 15 mm long, white. Capsule ±13 mm long, more or less rostrate. Seeds lens-shaped or discoid, smooth.
