Perennial herb up to 1.2 m. high; stem glabrous.. Leaves glabrous, sessile, oblong-spathulate, up to 20 cm. long, 6 cm. wide, apex obtuse, base cuneate, semiamplexicaul, margins entire or irregularly undulate.. Inflorescence lax, ± 12 cm. long; pedicels up to 5 mm. long, glabrous or with very sparse, short-stalked glandular hairs less than 0.1 mm. long.. Calyx-lobes lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, 3.5–6 mm. long, 1–2 mm. wide, connate at the base for ± 1 mm., very sparsely glandular-pubescent.. Corolla coral pink to brick red, very sparsely glandular pubescent; tube 8–12 mm. long; lobes obovate, 4.5–6.5 mm. long, 2.5–3.5 mm. wide, mucronate (mucro ± 0.5 mm. long).. Episepalous stamens included, ± 1.5 mm. below the epipetalous stamens; epipetalous stamens 0.5–1 mm. included within the tube; anthers without apical glands, broadly oblong, both whorls nearly the same size, ± 0.6 mm. long, 0.4 mm. wide.. Nectary scales linear, 2–2.5 mm. long.. Carpels linear-lanceolate, ± 6.5 mm. long, terminating in styles 0.5–1.5 mm. long.
