Characteristics

Calyx fusiform-urceolate, 11-13 mm. long in flower, with the maximum diameter in the lower 1/3, up to 17·5 mm. long in fruit, subequalling or a little longer than the tube of the corolla, green in the lower 2/3, yellowish-green above, shortly hairy outside, capitate-glandular-hairy on the inside, the glands minute; tube 5·5-8 mm. long, rupturing irregularly from the sinus between the sepals downwards; sepals 4·8-9(10·5) x 2·3-3·5 mm., lanceolate to subovate, attenuate and acute, conduplicate or with the margins slightly inflexed, finally subcylindric-canaliculate and subulate at the apex, fleshy.
More
Leaves 4·6-11 x 0·4-1·5(2·7) cm., linear or oblong to narrowly elliptic, very attenuate and subacute or obtuse at the apex, attenuate below into a subpetiolar base, entire or the median and lower ones sinuate or remotely and shallowly crenate, ± fleshy, canaliculate above along the median part but flat at the base and subcylindrical towards the apex, sessile, subamplexicaul but not connate, not decurrent, usually all opposite or the uppermost approximate in pseudo-pairs or distinctly alternate.
Corolla 11-16 mm. long, up to 20 mm. at fruiting, shortly capitate-glandular-hairy on the outside; corolla-tube 8·85-11·25 mm. long, tubular-urceolate, obtusely quadrangular, with the maximal diameter below the middle, narrowing slightly upwards, yellowish-green; corolla-lobes 3·65·5·8 x 1·6-1·8 mm., oblong-lanceolate or subovate, attenuate and acute, erect to spreading-reflexed, glandular-capitate-hairy on both faces, yellowish to salmon or brownish-yellow.
Stem 1-(2) from a woody (horizontal?) base, erect, straight, simple, terete, not nodose, 4-9 mm. in diam. below and 2-4 mm. in diameter under the lowest node of the inflorescence, usually almost leafless towards fruiting-time; lowermost internodes up to 2·5 cm. long, the next distal ones shortening up to 0·5 cm., then elongating up to (median ones) 7 cm., shortening again upwards (the infrafloral-one) to 2 cm.
A succulent perennial, 0·24-1·5 m. high (incl. the inflorescence), covered everywhere with a dense indumentum of very short, thin, simple, pluricelular, spreading, orange-brown to brownish hairs which are denser and capitate-glandular on the inflorescence and flowers.
Stamens with the filaments insertedd above the middle of the corolla-tube, the alternipetalous ± 0·6 mm. long, the oppositipetalous 1-1·75 mm. long; anthers c. 1 x 0·5 mm., ovate-oblong, those of the oppositipetalous stamens attaining the apex of the corolla-tube.
Flowers in few-flowered cymes grouped in ± dense corymb-like inflorescences 3·5-12 x 7-16 cm.; pedicels 3·5-11 mm. long, those of dichotomies up to 17 mm.
Carpels 6-7·9 mm. long; styles 1·6-2·5 mm. long, up to 3·5 mm. long in fruit; stigmas included.
Scales 1·3-2 mm. long, linear or linear-subrectangular, several times longer than wide.
Seeds c. 0·5 x 0·2 mm., subovoid.
Follicles c. 10·5 mm. long.
