Karwinskia calderonii Standl.

A shrub or small tree. It grows 2-12 m high. The young branches can have hairs. The leaves are simple and opposite. The leaf blades are 4-10 cm long by 2-4 cm wide. The flowers are in groups of 5-15 flowers in the axils of leaves. The fruit are 6-8 mm across.

Usually in dry thickets or forest, occasionally in oak-pine forest, sometimes in moist places, in the Oriente and along the Pacific slope, ascending from sea level to about 1,400 metres in Guatemala.

The fruit are eaten raw.

Plants are grown from seeds. Seeds germinate in 10-15 days.
