Characteristics

Liane to 6 m. tall ?or small tree, young stems glabrous, lenticellate.. Leaf-blades chartaceous, pale beneath, elliptic, or oblong-elliptic, 6–11.5 cm. long, 3–6 cm. wide, acuminate at apex, acute to obtuse and unequal at base, entirely glabrous; lateral nerves in 4–5(–6) main pairs; tertiary nerves rather coarsely reticulate; domatia present as tufts of white hair; petiole 6–10 mm. long, glabrous; stipules ± truncate, 2–4 mm. long, apiculate; leaves subtending lateral branches not observed.. Flowers 5-merous, borne in 3–10-flowered branched pedunculate cymes; peduncles 6–11 mm. long, puberulous; pedicels 2–4 mm. long, puberulous; bracteoles up to 1.5 mm. long.. Calyx-tube up to 2 mm. long, somewhat puberulous; limb 1.5 mm. long, repand or shortly dentate.. Corolla-tube 4 mm. long, with deflexed fused hairs set at 1/3 of the way down inside; lobes ovate, 4.25 mm. long, 1.75–2.25 mm. wide, acute.. Anthers fully exserted but not reflexed.. Style 6 mm. long, glabrous; stigmatic knob 1.25 mm. long.. Disk puberulous at edge.. Fruit only known from single-seeded examples, ± reniform, 1.8 cm. long, 1.2 cm. wide; pyrene ellipsoid with ventral face flattened and strongly indented beneath point of attachment, 1.7 cm. long, 1.1 cm. wide; lid-like area on ventral face surrounding central crest.
