Characteristics

Scandent shrub or liane; young branches sparsely pubescent.. Leaf-blades broadly elliptic to ovate, 3.3–7.5 cm. long, 1.7–4.5 cm. wide, obtuse to rounded or sometimes subacuminate at apex, obtuse to rounded at base, entirely glabrous or glabrescent beneath; lateral nerves in 5–6 main pairs; tertiary nerves obscure to apparent, coarsely reticulate; domatia present, glabrous or pubescent; petiole 3–6 mm. long, glabrous to sparsely pubescent; stipules triangular, 3–5 mm. long, long-acuminate.. Flowers (4–)5-merous, borne in 20–50-flowered pedunculate cymes; peduncles 0.5–1.2 cm. long, pubescent; pedicels 3–5 mm. long, pubescent; bracteoles up to 2 mm. long.. Calyx pubescent; tube 1 mm. long; limb dentate, 0.5 mm. long.. Corolla-tube 2.75 mm. long, with a ring of deflexed hairs setjust below the top inside; lobes oblong-lanceolate, 3 mm. long, 1.25 mm. wide, acute.. Anthers fully exserted but seldom reflexing.. Style 7.25 mm. long, glabrous; stigmatic knob 1.25 mm. long.. Disk pubescent.. Fruit, only known from single-seeded examples, 9 mm. long, 7 mm. wide; pyrene ovoid with ventral face flattened, 8.5 mm. long, 6 mm. wide; point of attachment poorly defined, with lid-like area on ventral face surrounding central crest..
