Climber or scandent shrub 2–3.5 m. tall; lateral branches spreading, upwardly curved, glabrous or covered with yellowish adpressed hairs when young; bark fawn.. Leaf-blades sometimes drying blackish, elliptic to broadly elliptic, 5–12 cm. long, 2.5–5 cm. wide, acuminate at apex, rounded or acute at base, glabrous to glabrescent with adpressed hairs on nerves beneath, papery, sometimes wavy at margins; lateral nerves in 5–7 main pairs; tertiary nerves coarsely reticulate, apparent or somewhat obscure; petioles 5–10 mm. long, pubescent with usually adpressed hairs; stipules with a triangular base 1–2 mm. long and apical subulate-linear lobe 4–7 mm. long, adpressed pubescent outside; leaves subtending lateral branches smaller but not differing in shape.. Flowers 4-merous, borne in densely flowered pedunculate cymes; peduncles 0.4–1.5 cm. long, adpressed pubescent; pedicels slender, 2–7 mm. long, adpressed pubescent; bracteoles inconspicuous, up to 1 mm. long.. Calyx-tube 0.5–0.75 mm. long, glabrescent to sparsely pubescent; limb dentate, 0.5–0.75 mm. long, sparsely pubescent.. Corolla white; tube 2–2.5 mm. long, with a ring of deflexed hairs below mid-point and finely pubescent above inside; lobes oblong-obovate, 1.5 mm. long, 0.75–1 mm. wide, obtuse.. Anthers small, fully exserted but not reflexed.. Style 4.25–6 mm. long, glabrous; stigmatic knob 0.25–0.5 mm. long.. Disk pubescent.. Fruit strongly 2-lobed, each lobe almost spherical, 1.2–1.5 cm. long, 2 cm. wide; pyrenes almost ovoid-spherical, 9 mm. wide; lid-like area lying along ventral face surrounding central shallow crest.
