Characteristics

Shrubs 0.5-1.2 m high. Stem simple or irregularly branched, leafy stems (3-)4-5 mm wide, 8-10 mm diam. Toward base. Leaves dark green, 9-15(-20) x (4-)7-14 mm, linear-lanceolate, becoming ± falcate below inflorescence, sometimes curving upward near tip. Inflorescence with 6 to 8 flowers (3 or 4 flower pairs), foliage bracts with sheathing part crimson-red, apices of outer bracts green, apices of inner reduced and usually entirely red; spathes membranous, 25-37 mm long, subequal, bracts membranous, transparent, 18-33 mm long, slightly shorter than spathes. Flowers transparent below, flushed reddish above, orange-red on exserted parts; perianth tube 2-5 mm long; tepals ± linear, limbs spathulate, obtuse to emarginate, exserted from inflorescence bracts, orange-red, 5.5-7.5 mm long, limbs 12-14 mm long, ± 1 mm wide just below apex, ± flat, inner slightly longer than outer, claws pale red fading to transparent toward base. Filaments ± 5 mm long, cream-coloured; anthers ± 7.5 mm long, exserted, reaching to within (2-)5-8 mm of tepal apices, yellow; pollen yellow. Ovary ± 2.5 mm long; style 5.7-7.8 mm long, exceeding tepals by 1-5 mm, stigmatic lobes minute. Capsules ± 6 mm long. Seeds unknown.
