Characteristics

Leaves ± distichous, (15)75–150 cm long, up to 2 cm wide, linear, gradually tapering to a ± blunt apex, the blade ± flat, glaucous; margins hyaline, remotely serrulate in the upper two-thirds or entire; keel prominent, smooth, upper surface only slightly grooved.

Raceme 5–15 cm long, oblong, dense; bracts 4–7 mm long, ovate to oblong, scarious, irregularly serrulate or fimbriate-serrulate, rounded at the apex, sometimes appearing acuminate through inrolling of the margins; pedicels 2–4 mm long.
Rhizome horizontal with short, well-spaced, erect, shoot-bearing branches; roots thick, fleshy.
Perianth 18–30 mm long, slightly constricted above the ovary, almost straight.
Young capsules c. 6 mm long, ovoid, mature capsules not seen.
Anthers exserted for 3–5 mm at anthesis, later withdrawn.
Flowers patent, pale yellow with green nerves, or green.
Peduncle fairly stout, 12–75 cm long.
Plants apparently solitary.
Style exserted for 5–8 mm.
