Characteristics

Rhizome slender, 7–12 mm in diameter, with short, well-spaced, erect, shoot-bearing branches, the latter ± densely clothed in fibrous remains of old leaf bases; roots many, slender, fleshy.

Raceme 8–9 cm long, sparse; bracts c. 1 cm long, lanceolate, rounded; sterile bracts membranous, white with a brown medial nerve, 2.2 cm long, lanceolate; pedicels c. 2–4 mm long.
Leaves 5–15, up to 25 cm long and c. 4 mm wide, linear, gradually attenuate to the apex, ribbed, with margins entire.
Perianth 28–34 mm long, cylindrical, slightly arcuate, not constricted above the ovary; lobes c. 2 mm long.
Flowers patent, finally pendulous, yellow; young buds erect, orange-red with green apices.
Peduncle erect slender, 12–26 cm long, enveloped at the base by old leaf bases.
Anthers not exserted; filaments exserted for c. 1 mm.
Plants usually solitary, 30–40 cm tall, slender.
Style attenuate, included or slightly exserted.
