Perennial herbs with 3-foliolate to biternate leaves and many-flowered cymes or compoundly umbellate inflorescences on long scapes with an involucre of reduced leaves at the branching of the inflorescence.
Tepals more or less petaloid, about 15 but variable in number, the outer often somewhat smaller and slightly sepaloid, without nectariferous pits.
Carpels indefinite in number, 1-ovulate, with glabrous deciduous styles.
Stamens indefinite in number.
Fruit of fleshy drupelets.
Flowers actinomorphic.
