Species

Angiosperms > Malvales > Thymelaeaceae > Lachnaea

Characteristics

Erect, moderately branched shrub up to 0.45 m tall, multi-stemmed at base; resprouter. Branches erect, slender, ridged below leaf bases, internodes 1/2-2/3 as long as leaves, sparsely adpressed hairy or glabrous, leafy, becoming naked with prominent leaf scars. Leaves decussate, ascending to patent, scattered, sessile, epistomatic, linear-elliptic to elliptic or obovate, 4.0-10.5 x 1-2 mm, coriaceous, glabrous; adaxially concave, smooth, dull, ± white-punctulate; abaxially convex, smooth or subkeeled, glossy; apex mucronate or acuminate; base cuneate; distal 2 or 3 or occasionally 4 or 5 leaf pairs immediately below inflorescence bract-like, elliptic, ovate, obovate or suborbicular, 1.3-3.0 x 1.3-2.4 mm, coriaceous; adaxially concave; abaxially convex, keeled to subkeeled, mucronate; margin ciliate. Inflorescence a terminal, sessile, ebracteate, 6-8-flowered umbel, 5-10 mm diam., on main and also on short lateral flowering branches below main inflorescence thus appearing racemose-like. Flowers subactinomorphic, cream or pale pink, sweetly skunk-scented. Pedicel 0.3-0.5 mm long, adpressed hirsute. Hypanthium 1.5-1.9 mm long, circumscissile ±1/2 way; upper portion funnel-shaped, tomentose outside, adpressed hirsute inside; basal portion ellipsoid, tomentose outside, glabrous inside. Sepals patent, subequal, elliptic to widely elliptic, 1.4-3.0 x 1-2 mm, apex rounded or obtuse, adaxially sparsely tomentose to glabrescent, abaxially tomentose. Stamens exserted; outer, antesepalous whorl arising at rim of hypanthium; inner, antepetalous whorl arising at mouth of hypanthium; Filaments 0.4-1.0 mm long; anthers ellipsoid to suborbicular, 0.2-0.4 mm long, abaxially without broad connective tissue. Floral scales exserted, arising at mouth of hypanthium immediately below antepetalous stamens, clavate, 0.3-0.5 mm long, glabrous, yellow in fresh state. Ovary ellipsoid, 0.8-0.9 mm long, glabrous. Style terete-obconical, 1.3-1.9 mm long, with straight, adpressed or incurled hairs in upper half. Stigma capitate, elongate-papillate.
