Characteristics

A perennial herb up to 35 cm high with a slender creeping stock. Flowering stem scapose, glandular-setose or setose. Leaves mostly basal, up to c. 20 x 6 cm, oblong to elliptic, narrowed to the base, amplexicaul, scarcely auricled, margins irregularly denticulate, coarsely toothed or subruncinate-pinnatifid, setose particularly below. Heads relatively few (c. 4-15), subcorymbose. Involucre c. 2 x 1 cm, glandular-setose or glabrous. Flowers yellow. Achenes c. 9-10 mm long including 2 mm beak, elliptic, tapering at both ends, strongly compressed, 3-5 ribbed on each face with broad, thickened margins, reddish-brown.

Cypselae reddish brown, elliptic, tapering to both ends, strongly compressed, 3-5-ribbed on each face with broad, thickened margins, tapering into a very short beak.
