Leaves spirally arranged, subopposite or in whorls, often crowded, linear to lanceolate, acute to subobtuse, mid-green to dark green, often strongly recurved, firm, opaque, 4–13 mm. long, (1.2–)2–3.7 mm. wide, without sclerenchyma fibres; margins ± hyaline, denticulate, the teeth projecting at right-angles to the margin, with a colourless, triangular basal portion.. Nodal scales linear, the margins entire.. Male spathe ovate to suborbicular, 4–4.2 mm. long, 2–3 mm. wide, pink or lilac, containing up to 30 flowers.. Male flowers not seen at maturity.. Female spathe narrowly ovate to ovate, 2–4.3 mm. long, 0.8–1.8 mm. wide, pink or lilac..
